It was the day before Andy’s first birthday. The Colesons were going to have a big bash the next day, and what with it being the weekend, they knew that everyone on their list was coming.
That was when disaster struck!
She had just finished a large batch of cookies and jam tarts. So, she had loaded up the dishwasher and run it. When the dishwasher drained, Emma had the shock of her life. The water started filling the kitchen instead of it going out, the way it usually did.

Hosting a large party without a dishwasher was beyond imagination!
But, where would they get a plumber who would attend to the blocked drain in a hurry? The local plumber was unavailable for the rest of the week. It seemed like a hopeless situation.
Just as they were about to give up all hope and cancel the party, Emma’s Aunt Lenny called her from St Ives. When Emma mentioned the need for an emergency plumber, she promptly gave her the number of a plumbing expert in Lane Cove. Emma felt a glimmer of hope and decided to give it a try.
Just as Aunt Lenny had assured them, the emergency plumber agreed to come and clear their blocked drain in less than an hour. Peter and Emma were thrilled. If the plumber came and finished his work as he had promised, they still had plenty of time to get their work done.
The plumber was true to his word. He cleared the blocked drain in less than half an hour, taking particular care to keep the kitchen clean even though he had disgorged a lot of food waste from the prep sink. Once he had finished, he tested the dishwasher before he left.
The next day, Emma and Peter threw a wonderful party thanks to the timely action of the plumber from Lane Cove.
